| Mar. 1: Vacation Deadline Reminder
-
24 February 2010 |
 |
Hurry Up! March 1st is the deadline to submit vacation requests.
Residents are entitled to four weeks of paid vacation per academic year. Vacation may be denied only where necessary, having regard to the professional and patient care responsibilities of the hospital department for the time the vacation is requested.
Under the contract, hospitals and/or departments cannot institute blanket denial policies which restrict residents from requesting vacation during a given rotation. Vacation requests must be submitted in writing at least 4 weeks in advance of the proposed commencement of the vacation (or by March 1st for vacations in April, May or June). The hospital has two weeks to confirm the request or to have alternate times agreed to. Where the hospital rejects the request, it must do so in writing and provide reasons for the rejection. If you are sitting your certification exam this spring, you have until one month before that exam to make a written request for one week of your vacation entitlement.
