ephysicianhealth.com is a new website that is sponsored in part by the CMA and is endorsed by its Centre for Physician Health and Well-being and the Canadian Association of Internes and Residents. The site was launched by the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine during the CMA's recent Canadian Conference on Physician Health in Vancouver.
The driving force behind the project is Dr. Derek Puddeter, Director of the Faculty Wellness Program at the University of Ottawa medical school. Dr. Puddester speaks on physician-health issues at many meetings and symposia every year and said that the needs of many doctors were not being met. "We wondered if we could develop a resource to help people 24/7, and whether we could do if for free. Some speakers in this field charge several thousand dollars for even small-group sessions with medical students, so the challenge was to build something that would be accessible to all without cost", said Puddester.
Response to the site has been extremely positive and an evaluation of its effectiveness will be undertaken shortly.
