PAIRO Trust Fund

The Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO) Trust Fund was established in 1985. The mandate of the Trust is to administer funds "for the welfare of internes and residents in the broadest sense and for the purpose of providing benefits for internes and residents and their families and beneficiaries".

The PAIRO Trust Fund supports the following awards:

Citizenship Awards for Medical Students
The purpose of this award is to recognize a medical student who, in addition to maintaining an adequate academic standing, has made a significant contribution towards improving the general welfare of fellow medical students. The successful candidate will have demonstrated creative, innovative leadership in one or more of the following areas: 1. curriculum development; 2. student well-being; 3. faculty liaison; and, 4. community involvement.

The award is in the amount of $1,000. There is one award for each university with the exception of the University of Toronto which has two awards. Associate or Assistant Deans of Undergraduate Medical Education or Faculty Awards Committees at each university are asked to begin the selection process in November of each year.

Resident Teaching Awards
This annual award is set-up to honour one resident at each university centre (with the exception of the University of Toronto which has two awards) who provides outstanding clinical teaching experiences to junior housestaff and clinical clerks. The award is in the amount of $1,000. Contact the Associate or Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education at your university centre for additional information on how to submit a nomination.

Travel Award for Clinical Educators
The Travel Award for Clinical Educators is designed for faculty members who wish to visit another centre to improve his or her clinical teaching ability. This is an annual competition and consists of 2 awards at a value of $4,000 each.

Interested applicants should contact the Associate or Assistant Deans of Postgraduate Medicine at each Ontario medical school. All applications are then reviewed by the Trustees and up to two winners are selected.
