PAIRO is involved in a number of activities to help shape the health care system that we will be entering after finishing residency. This area of activity has become increasingly necessary as public policy has started to turn to new graduates to solve the problem of a doctor shortage and distribution in the province. Some of these policies have had a very negative approach to young doctors including the ideas of penalizing income potential and forcing new graduates to practice in areas of the Government's choice.

In order to deal with these coercive approaches, PAIRO has a long history of working with communities and municipal associations to find positive, effective answers to a complex problem. Many of these initiatives have resulted in published reports and documents which have been widely circulated and have achieved significant recognition. Several reports have been developed after meeting with communities "on their turf".

On a daily basis, PAIRO reviews, comments and provides input to a variety of stakeholders on many areas of healthcare delivery including, for example, primary care reform, family medicine sustainability, international medical graduates, return of service, and postgraduate allocation.

In this section you'll find our position papers as well as other initiatives that we're currently involved in. If you would like more information please email pairo@pairo.org.
