Resident Well Being
Resident well-being is becoming increasingly more and more recognized as an area that medicine has not devoted enough time to. Although we are experts at caring for the health of our patients, we often forget to apply the same healthy living standards to our own life.
Each centre elects a Site Chair from among its PAIRO General Council representatives who are responsible for ensuring that local events for PAIRO members are being planned. Funds are set aside for this purpose and PAIRO encourages General Council members to organize a variety of social events for residents within their local communities.
In addition, PAIRO Resident Well-Being Half Days are held at each of the university centres yearly featuring topics related to residents’ lives and other fun-filled participating events.
Over the past years, other initiatives have included Resident Awareness Day, an event used to help better educate the public as to the roles of residents and as a chance for other hospital workers and peers to say ‘thank you for all the work we do.
A 24-hr Helpline at 1-866-HELP-DOC (1-866-435-7362) is a confidential support service for residents, medical students, their partners and families. PAIRO has partnered with The Distress Centres of Toronto because of their expertise and well-known commitment to providing crisis intervention support. All calls are strictly confidential.
